Los Santos, a corrupt city inhabited by unscrupulous individuals. In this city of sin, everyone is after the same thing: money and power. Most will do whatever it takes, constantly lying, cheating and stealing to get ahead. Such is the way this city has run for generations. However, the start of something new lies just over the horizon.
The Birth of a Boss
Since her earliest memories, Raine Caldwell was different. While her classmates were playing sports after school, she was under the bleachers selling marijuana and her father’s pills. A life of crime came naturally to her as the money earned from it granted her a lot of freedom and the ability to live as luxurious a lifestyle as a young person can. As her customer base grew and she became more widely known, she was approached by a man who simply referred to himself as “The Boss”. He offered her access to large quantities of harder drugs, such as heroin, meth and an array of party drugs. Raine, being a naïve teenager, accepted the stranger’s offer without much thought. All she saw was the money she could make selling more expensive drugs.
With her mother having passed and her father constantly slumped on the couch in front of the television from his own drug usage, Raine found a lot of free time to spend with this man known as “The Boss”. She spent most of her free time with the man, learning everything he had to teach her about how to maximize her profit. As the two became closer, she learned more about him. The man’s name was Carlos Miller, head of the infamously ruthless cartel known as Purgatory. Over the next three years, Raine, with the support of “The Boss”, would go on to become the biggest drug dealer in the city of Emmitsburg.
After three years of working and selling drugs for Purgatory, Miller finally gave her the offer she had been hoping for. He handed Raine a small pistol and told her she would be sent off with his squad of hitmen on their next mission. If she survived the mission, he would agree to train her to be an official part of the cartel.
Raine did more than survive, and from that moment on, she proved herself to be a great asset to Purgatory. She found that she was a natural-born killer. Something about watching the life drain from someone’s eyes who had it coming made her heart race. Soon, just shooting someone wasn’t satisfying enough for her. Raine found her calling as the group’s most “persuasive” interrogator.
She enjoyed the life of easy money the cartel offered her. She was 23 now and already owned a nice car and a small mansion. It seemed like nothing could go wrong.
Then, she got the call. Everyone rushed to the Purgatory HQ, curious as to why they were called together on such short notice in the middle of the night. It was then they were informed Miller had been kidnapped and was being held at a rival cartel’s headquarters. Immediately, they started preparing to rescue their boss. Once everyone was geared up, they raced to the location where Miller was being held. Dozens of Purgatory men swarmed the building. It was a bloodbath. Raine rushed through the warzone, desperate to find the man who had been like a father to her, gunning down whoever stood in her way and taking a few bullets as well, but she couldn’t feel the pain through the adrenaline. Eventually, she stumbled upon the door to the basement, leaning against it for a moment to catch her breath. She faintly heard the rattle of a chain from the other side of the door. Raine shot the lock and flung open the door, all but falling down the stairs in her rush to rescue her boss. The sight before her made her heart sink. Her boss, the man who she respected most in the world, sat on the ground propped up against the wall, his head covered with a burlap sack, his clothes tattered and bloodied from numerous wounds all over his body. Raine removed the sack from over his head, tears forming in the corner of her eyes as she saw him look at her with his eyes glazed over and barely breathing. She could hear him wheezing as he tried to say something, but his body gave out before he could form a word. He fell limp against the wall.
She picked up his lifeless body, carrying it carefully up the stairs. It was eerily silent as she entered the hallway. No gunshots, no footsteps, nothing. She pressed on, retracing her steps and being careful not to make too much noise. Raine had to step over dozens of bodies, enemy and ally alike, as she retreated to the vehicle. No one was there to stop her or greet her as she left the building. There was not a living soul in sight.
She placed her boss in the car and drove him back to their HQ. Raine had to bury him the next day along with her fallen comrades. Feeling extremely defeated and broken, she decided there was nothing left in this city for her anymore and booked a flight to Los Santos, hoping to start over and be able to live a more normal life.
